SNAKEPITKENNELS,
Most people, who have ever been
owned by a dog, know that they
talk to us, and that if we pay
attention, we can understand what
they are saying.
No, they dont speak to us in
words, even though I have seen a
few on TV video shows who have
learned that making a sound like a
word like "MOMMY" or "I love you"
can get them noticed, so they
learn really well!
The wagging tail when we come home
says, "Oh boy, Oh boy, your home,
I have missed you for the last 25
years!" Remember that…

SNAKEPITKENNELS,
I have always believed, and still
do today, that it is never
necessary to physically hurt your
dog, as a matter of fact, it is
against the law to do so!
I used to believe that it was
alright to smack a dog on the
behind with a loosely rolled
newspaper, (it really does make
more noise than it hurts them)
until I did it one day and came
home the next day to a shredded
newspaper.
It is amazing how far a dog can
spread one newspaper in a day!
To dogs, they live in a world of
gian…

SNAKEPITKENNELS,
This is a problem that is usually
started by the owner, who thinks
it is so cute to teach the cute
little puppy how to jump on the
couch, not even thinking of the
day when that cute little puppy
becomes a 70 pound dog!
At that point, since he has been
taught that it is alright to jump
up, it is really difficult to
teach him not to.
I cant tell you how many times I
have been dressed up to go
somewhere and stopped at a friends
house only to sit in a chair
covered with dog hair,…

SNAKEPITKENNELS,
One thing I believe is that
rubbing a dogs nose in poop doesnt
do anything but cause him to be
afraid of you, and to hide his
mistakes. Yes, there will be
mistakes, they are part of raising
a dog, and the key is to make
those mistakes as few and far
between as possible.
I have found amazing success with
the method I use, and it doesnt
cause any pain or fear in the
puppy, which is important. Here
are the steps I use to housebreak
a puppy:

SNAKEPITKENNELS,
People seldom realize that a move,
whether across the street or
across the country is as stressful
to their best friend as it is to
them.
Many people will simply get rid of
the dog, taking him to the pound
or giving him to a friend rather
than go to the trouble or expense
of moving him.

Then there are those of us who
would rather leave the car behind
than the best friend, after all a
car can be replaced.

SNAKEPITKENNELS,
Trust me when I tell you there are
two things you must remember when
you are training your dog, these
are:
*Patience, never get in a hurry
when you are training your dog, I
guarantee he will pick up on your
anxiety and wont learn a thing.
*Keep your sense of humor in tact;
it will really come in handy
during those unexpected training
blurbs!
What exactly is a training blurb?
Well lets see, its the time when
you are teaching your dog to fetch
a ball and he brings back the
nei…

SNAKEPITKENNELS,
Having your pet join in your
outdoor activities is a great deal
of fun when your dog remains
obediently at your side.
It may be easier to teach your
puppy to heel without a lead at
first, only you will know which
method is best for your dog.
Puppies love to be with you and
will be willing to follow you in
most situations.
They will also be easy to lead
with the smell of food, so carry
treats at all times during
training.
Keep the puppy on your left side
at all times to heel,…

Rough Play vs. Fighting
If done properly, your play sessions with your dog can be VERY physically vigorous--your important job is to not cross the line and have the dog think he is either being punished or attacked.
To use an analogy from human behavior, there's a big difference between two high school teens fighting to hurt each other versus them using their best skills against each other in a wrestling match.
Both of them know that the wrestling match does not mean they are being attacke…

Solutions to Isolation
If our dog can't be in our company, adding another dog is obviously the first thing that occurs to most of us. But we can enjoy the same success by adding a companion of another species. A cat buddy for a dog works well for many dog owners. Or if the dog's size allows this, a successful buddy for both dogs and cats is a big box turtle. They're cool! They live, they move around, they play, they nip...So if the size of your dog would not be dangerous for a turtle, try one!…

Isolation is the Major Cause of Dog Behavior
Problems
Isolation is the
single biggest motivator for bad behavior in companion dogs. Dogs
are pack animals by
nature. They are not genetically prepared to be alone. We say
"a pack of dogs";
it's a colloquialism in our speech. But then we get one, bring him
home, leave him
alone for 10 hours and expect him to be fine.
Dogs get "bad" when
they are stressed, just as people do. To give you an example
how damaging and
powerfully negative isolation…

What NOT to Do When One of Your Dogs Dies...
If you have multiple pets strongly bonded with each other, losing one can affect them as much as it does you. If one dies, either naturally or with veterinary assistance, common sense might tell you to protect your remaining dog(s) from evidence of the death of their pal.
On the other hand, the "Talkin' Dog" perspective reveals that you should always let the survivors see their deceased buddy's body before final separation. If death occurs with veter…
